Project 52, Shoot From The Hip…

This wasn’t as easy of a challenge as I expected.  The goal was to get a great shot from doing just as the title says, shooting from the hip, no peeking through the view finder.  On many occasions, I aim from above or shoot from below.  I have had some great shots in the past, but for this challenge, I just wasn’t getting what I was looking for, until today.  Yesterday I had the boys running around with just sweat shirts on, today we woke up to 4 inches of snow.  So our favorite neighbors came over to go sledding in our yard.

Here are a couple cute shots I got of Brayden and his best buddy as they were getting ready to go down the hill.  The ground was very slick, so to make sure I didn’t fall, I had to have one hand on the ground and the other with the camera stretched across my body, in front of the boys.  I am very happy with the outcome.

Lenses of Love…

Surprise Photography is honored to announce their partnership with Lenses of Love: Hearts for Haiti, a national non-profit endeavor dedicated to helping the people of Haiti recover from the recent devastating earthquake.

Surprise Photography is offering their support to organize relief services by offering their current $150 sitting fee to be donated to raise money for the people of Haiti.  All donations will be given directly to Kentucky Adoption Services who will assist in relief efforts.  This unique offer is available for families that book their session by Sunday, February 14, 2010 and complete their session by April 30, 2010.

Founder of Lenses of Love and national children’s photographer, Sally Clark created this heart-warming effort because “The devastation in Haiti has been heartbreaking to witness.  As a mother, I can only hope that the world community would reach out if something like this happened to my family or my community.  Imagining thousands of children without food, shelter, and water fired in me a desire to help.”

In life we come across some wonderful people who have a goal of making a difference. I would like to thank my friend Sally Clark, a Colorado based photographer, for inviting me to be apart of such a wonderful project.

For more information on how to book your session, please give me a call at 845-616-1733 or email me at melissa@surprisephotography.com.

Lovely Little Lady…

I have to say, the 9 month mark is one of my favorite ages to photograph children.  I love the amount of interaction they have at this stage.  This lovely family invited me out to their home today to meet Miss “A,” because they want to deck their walls with her big blue eyes.   I already can’t wait to go back when the days are brighter and the weather is warmer.   Their house has big windows with amazing light and property that is a dream for any photographer. Thanks again and I look forward to meeting with you all again soon!

Gotta love Mommy and Me Uggs!

learn-love-live- the event…

Last night was the learn-love-live event, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. There was an incredible turn out at Cosimos, 176 ladies were there last night.   I saw a lot of friendly familiar faces in the crowd and even ran into old coworkers that I haven’t seen in about 10 years.  Aging myself there :) .   If you were not able to make the event and wish to purchase a shirt or scarf (seen below), be sure to visit Elizabeth Boutique in Poughkeepsie.
