Baby Clinton…

Normally a newborn shoot takes anywhere from 2-3 hours, depending on the baby.  This shoot lasted several hours over 2 days.  Lucky for me, it was my baby and the shoot was at my house.  I will admit, it wasn’t all baby.  Recovery on your body post baby always varies.  I was pregnant a lot longer this time around, so between baby and I, there were a lot of breaks.    Timing with light is everything when shooting,  so while giving my back a rest, the lighting in my house changed.   By the time the older boys were ready to shoot with their brother, the lightening was off and we had to wait until the next day.  Shooting 3 kids together by myself, not an easy task.

When ever I work with a client who’s baby has an older sibling, I discuss the fact that I can never guarantee a the much desired “sibling shot.”  The older sibling can be completely hit or miss, mostly based on age, and their willingness to  be photographed with the new baby.  Well, the same can be said for this photographer’s children.  As much as Kieran loves to hug, kiss and hold the baby, he did NOT want to be photographed with him by himself, no matter the bribery.  I love bribery by the way.   He did however, take a picture with both of his brothers.  It took a good 15-20 minutes of convincing, but I finally got the shot.  Brayden on the other hand was great and cuddled in nice in close to his new baby brother.

It is bitter sweet knowing this will be the last newborn photographed in my home, but my family is now complete and Clinton is the perfect addition to our Surprise clan.

“My 3 Sons”

Monkey, Bear, and The Little Red Wagon…

It has been almost 2 years since I last met with this family, when little man “C” was about 6 months old.  Mommy and I have literally had this session planed for about 6 months now, and the day has finally come.  It has been been a long time in the waiting and probably only fitting that it was my last of the summer before my maternity leave. It was a bit humid this weekend, but having a great new location to shoot at was worth it.  I have driven by this spot hundreds of times, but didn’t know it existed.  And I am not giving up the location just yet, I want to have a couple more go arounds here before others flock to it :)    And what a cute little man little “C” is.  He is just adorable and so where his buddies, Monkey and Bear.  “C” man also had his eyes set on a rabbit, but that was a real one and there was no catching him.

Mommy has been a big supporter of mine over the past couple years, and I can’t thank her enough.  Well, I guess I thanked her with a complimentary session.  That is right, mommy took advantage of my referral program.  My business is based on referrals and this is my way of saying “Thank You” to those who send their friends and family my way. Want to learn more, drop me an email. Now I am off to hunt for that shirt “C” was wearing!

Old Home Charm and Two English Setters…

This session was bitter sweet for me.  It was a great session, but also one of my last of the summer.  I not only loved this family but LOVED this families house.  It was an older home just full of character and charm.  You should have seen the size of the pocket doors!  It did slightly break my heart when they told me they were getting rid of the chipping paint on the outside, it was just a nice touch in my opinion :)   This family not only had 2 great kids, but 2 energetic dogs who didn’t mind their portrait being taken either.  They also made me realize why am I a dog person, because these English Setters gave me the greatest greeting when I arrived.

Little Lady Fairy…

It has been a couple of years since the last time I have seen little Miss “M.”  In fact the last time we met, I was pregnant then too.  Since I saw her last, she has shot up a foot and grew a long head of hair.  What has stayed the same  is those beautiful blue eyes and her sense of style.  We have to give grandma props for this garb, after seeing Mom’s call for wardrobe assistance on Facebook, she went and bought this sweet and fun outfit.  It has also been a while since I shot at this location, you don’t want to overuse a good thing.  This site includes several of my favorite features in a shooting location, lots of brick and stone texture, shade and old doors.  Add sunglasses and wings into the mix, and we have ourselves a little fairy diva.

How do you know when your little fairy is done for the day, when she walks off the set :)

Gone Fishing…

Many of my clients call and book me out months in advance, just  like this family.  So when the day finally comes to meet, it is like meeting an old email pen pal.  When we talked back in February,  mom wanted to do a special shoot for dad that included one of his favorite past times, fishing with his kids.  The brought me to a great new location, and although the fish were not plentiful, the ducks sure were.  Needless to say, there was a lot of duck feeding and chasing going on.  A couple brave ducks walked straight up to us.   Lucky for us we did our shoot pretty early in the morning, because it soon got hot.  And of coarse, who can resist photographing a little red head!

My New Gallery…

I love helping my clients put together print and canvas galleries for their home.  I have some great tools and layouts that help my clients visualize how their images could look hanging on their walls, even before they are sent to the printer.   Well, hubby and I just celebrated our seven year itch anniversary so I wanted to give him a nice gift.  He is constantly seeing these fabulous canvases coming in and out of our house all the time, just non of them are ever for us.  Isn’t that always the way :)   So on a random free day I took the boys out for a mini photoshoot and surprised hubby with our new canvas pieces.  I opted to only go with 2 images rather than a multi image layout since baby #3 is due in just a few short weeks and I plan on doing a canvas display that includes him.

Here is how I started, I pull up my favorite photos and my 30ish canvas layouts on my projector.  I played with the pictures to figure out what 2 images looked best together, as well as what sizes worked best. I made sure to measure my space first so I didn’t have something too small in too big of a space or something to big in to small of a space.   Here is the layout I picked out:

And here is the final product:

Needless to say, hubby was over joyed and I have 2 beautiful new Gallery Wrap Canvases hanging in my home :)
