Tired Tree…

The look of this tree is how my body has been feeling over the past couple of days.  Worn down and tired.  I always joke that you have to sit on me to get me to stay still, well, my body has taken over and has put me out of commission for the past couple of days.   I have been trapped in bed with fever and no voice. I appreciate your patience with me getting back to emails and phone calls.  I can’t really chat on the phone since I have no voice and I am finally building up the energy to get to my emails.   Thank you again for your patience and be well.

Maureen and Kierran’s Wedding, Milford, Connecticut…

I went to school in New Haven, and still consider it one of my homes.  Although I no longer do what I went to school for, I wouldn’t trade my years there for nothing.  While in school I earned my keep by working for Outback Steakhouse in Orange.  I met some of the best people and still keep in touch with a lot of them, thanks to the beauty of Facebook.  There were a couple of brothers who worked there, who in a sense were like segregate brothers to me, Gavin and Britton Broatch.  They were the two oldest of 4 boys, with a sister in the mix too. We had some great times and some great adventures together.  Stories that you look back on and just laugh out loud.   As time went on, school ended, I moved to New York,  the next round of life’s adventures came and we all parted ways.

A couple of days after I got married in 2003, my husband had to break the news to me that Britton had suddenly passed away just days before.  I was stunned and deeply saddened, he was only 25 years old. The Broatch boys were avid wiffle ball players and to honor Brittan’s memory, they started the Brittan John Broatch Wiffle Tournament to raise scholarship money for his high school and other charitable needs.  Having lost a brother myself, I really admire the strength of this family to make the best out of a sad situation.  I am sure Britton is so proud.

Fast forward a couple years and I get an email in my in box.  Subject: “A Broatch Wedding.”  In the email, Kierran had asked if I was available to shoot his wedding. I immediately wrote back, “Is this Kierran Broatch, as in brother of Gavin??? ” “Yes, of course!”  he said.  I immediate thought wasn’t,   how nice he asked me to shoot his wedding, but  Gavin’s little brother is getting married. WOW, I feel old!  This email totally aged me.   Honestly, I was completely honored that Kierran and Mosey thought enough of me that they would ask me to photograph their special day.  I couldn’t have been more excited to work with this family again!

The day itself could have not been more beautiful.  There were a couple gusts of wind that were a bit chilly, but the location, color and lighten was just awesome.  And I have a fantastic second shooter working with me.  Thank you guys again for an amazing day and for having me be a big part of it.  Best wishes to you both!

(Look Gav, you made the blog!)

Amber and Graham’s Wedding, 10-10-10…

It should be wrong to have as much fun as I had shooting this wedding, and get paid for it.  I worked with a very talented second shooter, DJ, and my favorite videographer crew.  It was like a mini reunion for me walking in the front door of the bridal location, since I have photographed several of the bridesmaids families in the past, and perhaps several in the future. Amber and Graham are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful and supportive group of friends and family. You can tell by the size of their wedding party, they have a lot of important people in their lives.

My day with the bride started with prep pictures at a friend’s home.  What a beautiful home it was, and I do have to mention, my bedroom is the size of the master closet.  The owner/bridesmaid told me that her old apartment could fit in her bedroom suite.  The house was made warm and inviting with beautiful flowers placed throughout the home.  Lovely ladies and flower girls moving in and out of every room.  At the church, the bridal party stretched across the church, watching as Graham greeted his bride at the alter.  The ceremony so beautiful, it even brought the groom to tears.  He showed his joy of being pronounced “man and wife” with a fist pump in the air.

Post wedding portraits included stops at the package store, Dollar store and West Point.  And for those who are not from New England like myself, a package store is a liquor store, not a post office.  Grinder or Sub right :)   West Point is much larger than I ever anticipated.  The buildings on campus are just gorgeous and the shooting locals are just endless, the problem is getting to the right gate to get access to get on site.  Once your on, just a beautiful place, full of American pride and the Ward wedding party and crew.

At the reception, it was non stop dancing.  It started with an intro of the bridal party being introduced to Chris Brown, Forever, the song made famous on YouTube.   The bride and groom then made their entrance with their son on Graham’s shoulders.  At this moment, I took my favorite moment of the evening.  A photo that captured the joy between a father and his son (see below).  The newly married couple started their first dance as all do, slow and loving.   About a minute in the groom dipped his bride, put his hand in the air….cue Usher, O.M.G…again the wedding party broke out into dance, and it never ended.  Now most weddings take a break to eat, not this one, it was one non stop party. If you weren’t on the dance floor, you better have had a broken leg as your excuse.  And yes, the groom did crowd surf and the groomsmen lost some clothes along the way.   I will leave your imagination to fill in the rest.

Amber and Graham, what a party. What a truly special event it was and the ultimate party. Like I said, I am not sure when the party really started, nor am I sure when it really ended.  I know I saw some pictures of the wedding party at Denny’s after the fact.  Here is to a long and happy marriage, and to a brother or sister for “T’ man!  Thank you for having me be a important part of your special day.

Project 52…

After two weeks of straight travel, it is time for  a little catch up with Project 52.  This weeks assignment was food.  Now, I never really had a thing for cupcakes until my 2nd pregnancy.  For the first 3 months I felt awful and didn’t want to eat a thing.  Finally after weeks of feeling nauseous, I was hungry and all I wanted was a cupcake.  It wasn’t any cupcake, it had to be a white cupcake with green or pink frosting.  When I relayed that message  to my husband, you could here the “where am I going to find one of those” sounds over the phone.   But he pulled through and come home with one of the biggest cupcakes I have ever seen, good hubby.  Recently I discovered the deliciousness of  Red Velvet Cupcakes, I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing.  And now Starbucks carries them!  I can get my fancy mocha and fancy cupcake in one stop, SCORE!

Warning: if you are on  a diet, do not look down!

Orange Glow…

This summer we have surely seen our share of crazy weather.? It seems like thunderstorms are apart of our daily routine.? The other night as I was putting the boys to bed, there appeared to be an orange like glow around the house.? It was as though the sky was on fire.? Mother Nature, playing more games.
