Classic Weekend…

Last weekend was the weekend of “Classics.”  Both families I photographed, have been with me for the past several years.  This little sweetie was one of my very first sessions after my son Kieran was born and I have seen her every year after that.  Now that I think about it, I might have to discuss an arranged marriage with one of my boys.  She is being raised right after all, not only is she a Dave Matthews fan, but a Red Sox fan as well.  Get the contracts!

My Secret Barn…

I can’t claim finding this location since one of my previous clients brought me here, but I will not release its location.  It is a small, sweet little spot that is well hidden and I’m not sure I want to share it with others (wink wink).   When I met here with this family, mom and I started going trough the things she brought with her for the photos.  She showed me this beautiful parasol and told me the story behind it.  There are many of us out there that hold onto things in hopes that one day we just might use it.   This parasol was one of those things mommy just couldn’t part with.   Now I know why, for this photo:

I want to blow this photo up super large and throw it up on my studio wall.  It is one of my absolute favorites of the year. Then there is the little sister with these simply stunning eyes, wowza!

As you can imagine, this was a fun and easy shoot.  Great location, two beautiful girls and one happy family.

A Girl and Her Dogs…

It is truly and honor to be asked to photograph special moments and times in people’s lives.  It is even a bigger honor when they come back year after year. One of my favorites is photographing my previous newborns, for their first birthday. It is like watching my babies grow.  Last year I met this little sweetie, and her puppies, just weeks after she was born.  For those of us who had dogs before we had kids, our dogs were our babies.  Jack and Jessie are the 4 legged babies in this house.  And we never want to see our babies sick, so I my heart sunk when I noticed that Jessie was missing a leg, lost to cancer.  Jessie such a strong dog, you would never have known she was sick.  She was running around and as happy as she was last time I saw her.  Jack was like my left hip and followed me everywhere, I would take him home if I could.  And of course,  little Miss M is running around too.  Growing up quick before our eyes.

It is extremely hard to get all eyes on the camera when photographing a family of 5, even harder when 2 of the 5 are dogs.  So I can say I am thrilled I was able to have grabbed the family photo I did.

Flowers on the Farm…

When I arrived at this farm last weekend, I was excited because for me it was a new, fresh spot to photograph at.  The first thing you are greeted with when you pull in, is this long beautiful field of flowers.  Over to the right, the apple picking orchards extend so far back, you can actually drive through the fields.  It was a gorgeous day to be sitting in the grass and photographing this beautiful young family.  The fact that we had both be preparing for cooler weather, we found ourselves over heated in what was the one day return of summer.  It was around 85 degrees out that day.

The kids had great fun picking and throwing apples and helping me snap a couple alone pictures of just mommy and daddy.  They made such great assistants, they can come work for me anytime.  I do have to note, I am proud of myself for actually leaving a session at an orchard without buying a dozen donuts on my way out.  They are so yummy, but with all these orchard sessions, I need to restrain.

Best Nursery Ever…

I previously mentioned that this beautiful momma and myself were in a race to the finish line to see who had their baby first.  Well, she totally beat me and as each day goes by, she has beaten me by a lot!   I know how excited she was about the newborn shoot and how important it was to her to get those shots when possible, but I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to do it in my 2 week newborn span pending my little guys arrival.  I am technically on maternity leave but since no baby yet, I made sure to get down to their home to get their newborn in ASAP.  Can I say, momma looks super FANTASTIC for just having a baby 5 days ago.  She is like an old pro at this baby thing.

When I got to their home, I asked if the nursery was done, which 75% of the time it isn’t.  When daddy took me upstairs to see it, my mouth dropped.  I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this beautiful room.  What a lucky little man to have such a great space and such creative parents who put it all together in time.  A lot of their room decor came from one of my favorite online shopping sites, ETSY, including the the wall vinyl.  Daddy said it took 5 hours to do, and well worth it in my opinion.  Then there was “MAX,” the mini guard dog/supper puppy.  Already so protective of his new brother.

This shoot ran beyond super smooth, but I have to say I was completely touched when momma took a picture of me with baby and they thanked me for being a part of the process of welcoming little Lucas into the world. That jesture made me feel more like a friend than just a photographer.  Thank you for that!

Can’t get enough of that hair!

This may be my favorite mother/baby shot ever.

Old Home Charm and Two English Setters…

This session was bitter sweet for me.  It was a great session, but also one of my last of the summer.  I not only loved this family but LOVED this families house.  It was an older home just full of character and charm.  You should have seen the size of the pocket doors!  It did slightly break my heart when they told me they were getting rid of the chipping paint on the outside, it was just a nice touch in my opinion :)   This family not only had 2 great kids, but 2 energetic dogs who didn’t mind their portrait being taken either.  They also made me realize why am I a dog person, because these English Setters gave me the greatest greeting when I arrived.
