When my friend Kara found out she was pregnant with baby 3, she not only told me via instant message, but she also booked me on the spot. I was not only thrilled with the honor, but overwhelmed with happiness for her and her family. I have known Kara for a long time and I know how much of a blessing this baby was.
I have a great past with her kids, one of my favorite sessions when I first started my business. Both of them were fabulous little hams again for me, even thought the weather was a bit brisk. With a late December session, we were glad to get away with a cool breeze versus 3 feet of snow.
I am going to admit, although Surprise Photography had a wonderful year, I am looking forward to a fresh start in 2012. My personal life took some real bad hits with unexpected deaths of friends and family, a dear friend being diagnosis with cancer and Kieran taking about 10 years off my life with two major accidents in one year. Don’t worry, his is okay. And although I tried to not it affect my work, I found myself not able to produce a final product as quick as I would wish. I beat myself up a lot over it but came to realize, I am only human and I do have to put my family first. I hired a wonderful girl to work with me this winter and plan on holding on to her tight. She is the reason I survived the holidays season, our busiest ever!
Next year I will be lightening up my schedule a bit. I will be traveling and doing several educations workshops, and taking several mini vacations with my family. What I have learned last year, is that I need to put my family first, enjoy as much time with them as possible, enjoy life and take adventures, and surround myself with good positive people. A happier me will only make for a better Surprise Photography.
Again, I can’t thank you enough for being apart of our family this year. Here is a look back at some of the wonderful faces that we had the honor of capturing this year:
Just days after meeting baby “J” at the hospital, I got the privilege of coming to his home and shooting his newborn pictures. I am a fan of older homes with character, heck I bought one, but this one had killer hardwoods and a gorgeous wooden staircase, so for me to shoot here was a big SCORE! He was bright eyed most of our visit but after some work of being super cute, we finally got him to rest his eyes. It must be the bucket.
YES, I am still here and finally back on the blog. I will admit, I was worried I wouldn’t remembered my blog login, it has been that long. I have had a wonderful and overwhelming holiday season. We were shooting almost 4-5 days a week, I am normally shooing 2, so we are now catching up!
This October I had the joy of meeting this little guy. He is a sweet little treasure and the son of a former bride and groom. Can I say how lucky I feel that they continued their journey of growing their family with me. I had just gotten home from a shoot at Vassar hospital and got the phone call, “He is here!!!” I’m like, I was just there. What a baby week!
Two nights before the big storm hit, I got to enjoy a wonderful evening with this family to be. We hit up the CIA but there were no cupcakes or Anthony Bourdain in sight. Apparently we missed the closing of the cafe by like 2o minutes. Like seriously, don’t mess with a pregnant lady or photographer who are hungry. I did send this couple to check out one of my favorite places in the Hudson Valley, who ended up hooking me up with some great food for my son’s 1st birthday party, Soul Dog.
Yes, my first post wedding baby!!! When I photographed this couples wedding, I was 8 months pregnant with Clinton. Now here we are, and rolls are reversed. And anyone who knows this couple, knows they will ROCK parenthood and I am sure baby will be a really cute one. We will see very soon! And thank you to Scott and Margaret for entertaining me by trekking out to this tree I just had to shoot in front of.
