Washington Slept Here, Hudson Valley Maternity Photographer…

The morning I was getting ready to head to this session, there wasn’t a cloud and the sky and it was a beautiful shade of blue.  The day before it was almost 60 degrees, so it is going the same today right.  As soon as I took my first step out the door, I was slammed with the reality that winter was still hanging around.  The wind chill made the air feel like it was frozen.  Yes, frozen air.   The house we shot at was an amazing historic home located in Hopewell Junction. It is very much lived in, but at the same time you feel like you are walking into the Colonial Era.  I was a bit afraid to touch anything but was lucky enough to get a tour.  Yes, I was being a little nosy but the history and decor of the home was so amazing.  Come to find out, George Washington stayed in one of the rooms of this home.  As I was leaving, I had a minor heart attach when I knocked over a churn.  Thank god they made things of sold wood back in the day and it was fine.

As for our expanding family, I have been lucky to hang with momma and son at Waddle n Swaddle on several occasions.   I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their maternity/newborn sessions, as I have also photographed their friends baby last year.  Big brother was a man on a mission, to find the cat.  We got a little camera time with him, but there is no holding a toddler, on the hunt, back.   I have to also thank mom and dad for braving the cool, crisp air and heading outside for a couple shots.  Can’t wait to meet baby!!!

Family Farm, Hudson Valley Family Photographer…

I think I need to change my title to “Official Farm Photographer of the Hudson Valley.”  I have shot on several farms over the past couple of months and I am so not complaining, in fact I want more!  This day, like many others started of chilly, but it was completely doable to pull off an outdoor family shoot.  I spent about 20 minutes getting a tour of the farm while scouting out shooting locations.  One of our biggest issues was the depth of the snow in some of the more desirable shooting locations. I kind of dragged them out to some spots anyway ;)   After scouting out the locations and heading back to grab the family, the snow started coming down and it was coming down good.   We kept the babies safe and warm in the car until the scene was ready and then we brought them in. Figures as soon as the shoot was over, the snow stopped.

When moving into the barn where some of the cattle is kept, I got the joy of seeing several new baby calves, only 24 hours old.  Some nursing right from there mommas.  It was an amazing scene.  In the barn I captured what may be one of my favorite images, the boy with his baby calf.  The calf was only a day old, momma cow looked on as we got some newborn pics, LOL!

It was a nice to spend the morning with this family.  I envy the not only their immediate family relationships, but their brother sister bonds as well.

Farmer Boy, Ulster County Newborn Photographer…

Two months ago I had the pleasure of working with this family when we did momma’s maternity photos on their farm.  Then just days after Christmas,  their baby boy was welcomed into the world.  Normally I photograph newborns within the first 12 days of life, but unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to meet.  But this week I finally got to head back to the farm and hang out with this sweet little baby and his sister.   Big sister was a lovely little hostess and took great care of both her baby brother and baby doll.

Lucky & Sister, Hudson Valley Newborn Photographer…

You might recall earlier this year when I posted about Lucky the dog and his humans.  We met for a maternity session down on Main  in Beacon on a nice snowy day.  Weeks have gone by,  baby is now here and Lucky has a baby sister of the human kind.  She busted out some great smiles during her shoot and Lucky was a great little host.   And be sure to check out this little sweeties girlie girl nursery, so pretty!!   Thank you again Lucky, Mommy, Daddy and baby for having me document your sweet babies welcoming!

Hello Old Friend, Hudson Valley Family Photographer…

Over the holiday vacation I got to meet with two families from out of state, one from Florida and another from Tennessee. Although I consider each one of my sessions special, my visitors from Tennessee were extra special. Richard and Caroline are old friends from back in the college days. Richard and my husband were in the same fraternity and we even attended each others wedding. Since graduating, we moved to New York and they settled in  Tennessee.  This was the first time we got the pleasure to meet their kids. And what great kids they are. The oldest is just a clone of his daddy and the youngest has eyelashes that any woman would pay good money for.

I had a wonderful afternoon with them at the Bank Square Coffee House in Beacon and can’t thank them enough for including a visit with me during their holiday visit home.

There’s No Snow In Florida…

A couple months ago I got a phone call from Dana, who currently lives in Florida with her family, regarding an extended family shoot during her visit home to New York.  She was excited about the idea of having snow in the photos, and she sure got her wish.  The night before our shoot, NY got blasted with a heavy fall.  We originally thought about shooting on the river in Newburgh, but it was a tad bit freezing that day and being close to the water might make the wind factor a wee bit worse. Lucky for us, Dana’s husband had a friend was kind enough to let us borrow their home.  They had a nice lot of land and large windows for some indoor photos.

One thing that happened on this shoot that has never happened before, a lost tooth!  Right in the middle of the shoot, Dana’s daughter lost one of her front teeth.  Now the tune comes in, “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.”  I hope the tooth fairly treated her well.

I hope you had a safe drive home to Florida and thank you for sharing your trip and beautiful family with me.

My favorite!
