Best Of The Hudson Valley, Hudson Valley Child Photographer…

The “Best of” always features the most fabulous types of food, drink and shopping in the Vally.  However, the arts are very under represented on the ballot.

This year I am really pushing to get more artists recognized fortheir contribution to the Valley.   Although there is no official ballot option, there is a “Fill in your own category”  slot.

I would love for you to consider filling in that slot with:

Surprise Photography, Best Children’s Portrait Photographer

I would be HONORED to be the first in this catagory, and would have to celebrate with my clients in a big way!!!

Here is where I need you HELP!!!

What you need to do, is follow this LINK:  http://www.hvmag.com/Hudson-Valley-Magazine/Best-Of-Hudson-Valley-Ballot-2012/

And at the very end where you see “Fill in your category,”  fill in Surprise Photography, Best Children’s Portrait Photographer

Thank you and lets cross our fingers!!

Also, don’t forget Waddle N Swaddle in the Best Baby Boutique category!

Kristen and Darren’s E-Shoot, Hudson Valley Wedding Photographer…

Early last year I shot my first boudoir mini session.  One of my girls was participating as a surprise for her boyfriend, Happy Valentine’s to him!!!  Well, apparently he loved the photos so much, as well as her, he put a ring on it!   So when Kristen emailed me about shooting her wedding, I was extremely gitty.    We met on a lovely day this past fall to shoot their engagement session.  Most of you in the area will recognize our background, the Culinary Institute of America.   I have been her many of times, but why can’t the bakery ever be open on weekends????

Anyway, thank you to Kristen and Darren for a FABULOUS and fun afternoon.  I can’t wait to shoot your special day!

Devon and Mark, Hudson Valley Wedding Photographer…

Taking a look back to last fall, I met up with one of my fabulous couples for an engagement shoot.  It was a wonderful evening on the Hudson with amazing light.  We had some play time with their children, the furry and fluffy ones, and then off to the Walkway.  And lets talk about the shoes, I joked with Devon that she was going to blow the shoe photo up, poster size and hang it up over the bed.   The shoes were that FAB!!

I am so looking forward to their wedding this summer in Poughkeepsie.  See you two soon!

Jennifer and Ryan Are Married, Connecticut Wedding Photographer…

When an old college friend of mine announced on Facebook that she was engaged, I of course sent my “Congratulations!!!” and then followed it up with, “I know a wedding photographer.”  I was only having fun but was beyond thrilled when she said, let’s roll!   From dorm room parties, to watching her put on her wedding dress,  seeing your friend grow and starting the foundation for her own family, is such an amazing experience to be apart of.

I remember driving to this wedding in Connecticut, just watching the sky.  We had about a 60% chance of rain,  however not one drop of rain was to be seen that day.  The outdoor ceremony went off without a hitch, and the party, which started before the wedding, lasted until the very last song where the groom  gave a singing performance like he was putting on his own concert.  Yes, it was a FUN night.

Thank you again Jenn and Ryan for including me in such a wonderful day in your life.

Year In Review, Hudson Valley Photographer…

I am going to admit, although Surprise Photography had a wonderful year, I am looking forward to a fresh start in 2012.  My personal life took some real bad hits with unexpected deaths of friends and family, a dear friend being diagnosis with cancer and Kieran taking about 10 years off my life with two major accidents in one year.  Don’t worry, his is okay.  And although I tried to not it affect my work, I found myself not able to produce a final product as quick as I would wish.  I beat myself up a lot over it but came to realize, I am only human and I do have to put my family first.  I hired a wonderful girl to work with me this winter and plan on holding on to her tight.  She is the reason I survived the holidays season, our busiest ever!

Next year I will be lightening up my schedule a bit.  I will be traveling and doing several educations workshops, and taking several mini vacations with my family.  What I have learned last year, is that I need to put my family first, enjoy as much time with them as possible, enjoy life and take adventures, and surround myself with good positive people. A happier me will only make for a better Surprise Photography.

Again, I can’t thank you enough for being apart of our family this year. Here is a look back at some of the wonderful faces that we had the honor of capturing this year:

Happy Holidays!!!
