A New Baby Boy On The Ranch, Ulster County Newborn Photographer…

What a great week for me.  I got the pleasure to meet two newborns, just 24 hours old, within days of one another.  This little man joined the world just days before the new year.  I always love to see how the older siblings take in their new baby brother or sister in the hospital.  It can be an bit of overwhelming experience for them, yesterday they were the baby, today they are an older sibling, they are spending a lot of time in a strange room and there are a lot of cool buttons to play with on Mommy’s bed.  I look forward to seeing this little guy again at his home on the ranch as well as meeting his older brother as well.   Stay tuned for more.

Horses And Hounds, Ulster County Maternity Photographer…

I was beginning to think this session was never going to happen. First, momma to be was sick for an extended period of time, then I was sick for a period of time.  Finally we were able to meet between sicknesses, for momma’s maternity shoot.  I had a slight fear that being so close to her due date and with the constant rescheduling, that we would miss the opportunity to meet before the baby was born.  One thing I was sure of, was that we would have a beautiful place to shoot.  My dear friend owns Brookside Farm right down the street, so I knew pulling up to Horses and Hounds Stables, there would be endless opportunity for beautiful shots.  Yes, it was a tad bit chilly that day, but I had a wonderful afternoon with mommy and big sis to be.  I can’t wait to meet baby!

Mr. New Jersey…

Yes, I am not on top of my blog game like I normally am.  I have a great excuse, boys, boys, a side of more boys, topped of with  October,  my busiest month of the year.  With 3 kids wanting my attention, my limited time is getting stretched even more thin, forcing late nights for editing, album design and blog posts.  If you follow me on Facebook, you will probably see all my Starbucks references.  Caffeine has become my BFF due to lack of sleep.  And understand, I am so not complaining. I am feel so lucky to have  a great crew of little dudes and a wonderful group of clients who remind me, I have the best 2 jobs in the world, mom and photographer. Sleep will come, in January.

Last weekend this family invited me out to their family home out in the Gunks to photograph his Little “T’s” newborn photos.  They live full time in NJ, but escape the real world in the mountains of the Hudson Valley.   Driving out to their home, you drive see some of the best views and now  that fall is here, you see some of  the best colors.  The yellow of the trees outside their home was just gorgeous, just making the images glow. Little man was a breeze and barely made a peep the whole time I was there.  He stayed nice and bundled up in his Knapp Sack and even though I get to hold my own baby everyday,  I still can’t get enough of holding another.

A Day Apart…

Just one day after giving birth to Clinton, I was in my hospital room, checking my email and was shocked to hear that one of my clients was actually right next door and just had her baby girl.  Why was I shocked, well, she was beyond early.   In fact, we were set to meet at the end of October.  When I ran into mommy and daddy, looking my “just givin birth” best in the hospital, I was relieved to hear that baby was doing well.  Once little miss was able to come home, I came over with Clinton for a photo play date.  Some of you might recognize big sister, she was featured on the cover of Tots and Trends Magazine early this year.  On some occasions, the big sibling, baby sibling shot can be a tough grab.  Not for this little one, she was all about baby, in fact she didn’t want to let her go.

I have to say, I was all over the colors in this shoot, influences of Thailand.  A place I would love to visit one day.

New Product, Image Folio…

I have been looking into some great new products to include with my product line.  I have some great samples that I am dying to show off, but first I am going to show you you this great image folio, a modern way to put your images on display.   This folio is not only great for my clients, but they would make great gifts for new grandparents or the parents of the bride and groom. Image folios include a custom photographic cover and are complete with two image panels on the inside left and right.   I saw this and I had to whip up a sample for my studio, my Clinton being the featured model of course.

Baby Clinton…

Normally a newborn shoot takes anywhere from 2-3 hours, depending on the baby.  This shoot lasted several hours over 2 days.  Lucky for me, it was my baby and the shoot was at my house.  I will admit, it wasn’t all baby.  Recovery on your body post baby always varies.  I was pregnant a lot longer this time around, so between baby and I, there were a lot of breaks.    Timing with light is everything when shooting,  so while giving my back a rest, the lighting in my house changed.   By the time the older boys were ready to shoot with their brother, the lightening was off and we had to wait until the next day.  Shooting 3 kids together by myself, not an easy task.

When ever I work with a client who’s baby has an older sibling, I discuss the fact that I can never guarantee a the much desired “sibling shot.”  The older sibling can be completely hit or miss, mostly based on age, and their willingness to  be photographed with the new baby.  Well, the same can be said for this photographer’s children.  As much as Kieran loves to hug, kiss and hold the baby, he did NOT want to be photographed with him by himself, no matter the bribery.  I love bribery by the way.   He did however, take a picture with both of his brothers.  It took a good 15-20 minutes of convincing, but I finally got the shot.  Brayden on the other hand was great and cuddled in nice in close to his new baby brother.

It is bitter sweet knowing this will be the last newborn photographed in my home, but my family is now complete and Clinton is the perfect addition to our Surprise clan.
